Carving a Pumpkin from a Wood Bead

Every pumpkin in this pair starts as a plain round wood bead. In this video, Sarah carves it into shape by hand, ridge by ridge, then sculpts the stem and sets it in place. Once the shape is finished, each pumpkin is hand-painted in rustic orange with shading worked into the grooves to give it depth.

There are no molds and no shortcuts here, which is why these take longer to make than anything else in the studio, and why no two ever come out quite the same.

Hand-carved and hand-painted in the Sarahfide Studio in Jacksonville, Florida.
